Srinagar, May 21 (KNO): With a forward step towards a drug-free and healthier society, the Srinagar Police on Wednesday organized a free medical camp at Panchayat Ghar in Fakir Gojri, Harwan Srinagar. Held under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2024-25 and in line with the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,’ the initiative offered essential medical care to the underserved while spreading awareness about the perils of substance abuse. As per the details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the camp saw enthusiastic participation from the local community, with around 100 residents, as many of them elderly and children receiving free consultations and medicines. The doctors from the Police Hospital Srinagar and Sub-District Hospital Hazratbal, assisted by paramedical staff and the MI Room team from DPL Srinagar, carried out detailed health check-ups and distributed prescribed medicines tailored to each patient’s condition. Speaking on the sidelines, a senior police officer told KNO, this camp is a small step towards a bigger goal of eradicating substance abuse and ensuring that basic healthcare is accessible to all. Similarly, locals praised the initiative for bringing healthcare services right to their doorstep. “In our hilly areas, going to the hospital isn’t easy. This camp helped many of us, especially the elderly,” said Abdul Rashid, a resident of Fakir Gojri. Another resident, Fareeda Begum said, they not only received medical help, but also learned how drugs are silently destroying our youth. “The police talking openly about this issue gives us hope,” he said. Notably, the camp also hosted awareness sessions on personal hygiene, disease prevention, and the devastating consequences of drug addiction. Youth were encouraged to stay engaged in positive activities and stay away from drugs, fostering a vision of a healthier, more productive community—(KNO)
